How certification works

Eight weeks — to learn it, practice it, and teach it.

Certification goes beyond completing the course — it means attending every session and showing you can teach the material with confidence.

Five small-group mentoring classes

Two hours each on Zoom, with five other participants and a HeartMath Senior Facilitator. You'll work through the Trainer Notes, module videos, and the science using the Study Guide.

Between classes, participants are encouraged to meet and practise presenting to each other.

Two Teach Back days

During two full-day sessions, you'll present two assigned 30-minute modules to your mentoring group. After each one, your peers and a Senior Teach Back Facilitator share constructive feedback to help you strengthen your delivery. These sessions are also where you'll demonstrate you're ready to facilitate the material.

A half-day final class

The last piece of learning, held live, expanding on everything covered across the program.

Your final debrief

A one-to-one conversation with your designated HeartMath representative to close out certification.

Plan for the workload

Reserve three to four hours of study before each class or session. Attendance at all mentoring classes, both Teach Back days, and the final class is required for certification.

Your certification authorizes you to deliver Coherence Advantage® — not to certify other trainers. Trainer certification is provided exclusively by HeartMath headquarters and its officially designated partners.

Working specifically with teams? Activating the Heart of Teams™ is designed for team coherence.

Delivering it independently — or within your organization?

Same certification, same program — different license. Organizational trainers deliver the program to people within their own organization; delivering it outside requires a separate Independent Trainer license.

Coherence Advantage® is a good fit if...

After certification

You won't be doing this on your own.

HeartMath Community of Practice

Graduates are eligible to join the Community of Practice — ongoing support, shared resources, and other trainers doing the same work. Your first year is $29.50, discounted from the usual $295 a year.

The details

Policies and requirements

Fees below apply based on how long before the first class you cancel:

  • 30+ days before: $400
  • 15–29 days before: $800
  • 1–14 days before: $1,500
  • After the first class begins: no refunds and no transfers

If you're already enrolled, you can transfer once, and only to a class series that hasn't started:

  • Current class begins 30+ days out: $500 fee
  • Current class begins within 29 days: $1,500 fee

Emergencies are considered case by case.

Attendance at all mentoring classes and both teach-back sessions is required for certification. If you miss a session because of an emergency, contact your trainer immediately.

We're committed to every candidate getting there. If certification requirements aren't met during the program, HeartMath offers additional support to help you complete — typically one to three hours at $150 per hour. Once that's done and the additional fees are paid, certification is granted and you get access to all the resources in your license agreement.
