HeartMath® Interventions Certification Program FAQ's

  • Do I need to take this course in order to teach my clients or patients HeartMath tools and technology?

It depends upon the tools and techniques that you want to teach them. Many of our products are designed for self-learning. For example the emWave PC has many features that can aid in the instruction of the Quick Coherence® technique, a basic coherence-building skill.

Many health professionals use HeartMath technology (emWave products) to teach their patients or clients how to effectively reduce stress using only this technique. However, there are numerous clinical applications that are better served through a specific teaching protocol and combination of tools. The in-depth training the HeartMath Interventions (HMI) program offers is not available in any of our other programs. In addition to learning the 'ins and outs' of using emWave technology in clinical settings, this program includes specific protocols for teaching 5 core HeartMath emotional refocusing and restructuring techniques.

Finally, upon successful completion of the course, you will be able to claim you are a Certified HeartMath Interventions Practitioner and receive on going support from HeartMath faculty who will be available to answer your clinical and technical questions.

  • Do I have to attend any classroom sessions?

No. HMI is a distant learning program that includes at home study, webinars and on-going online support

  • Why do I have to sign a letter of agreement?

When you complete the course you will have HeartMath's permission to use our confidential information, processes and materials. The Letter of Agreement states what we agree to do and what you agree to in order to use our proprietary information and claim that you are a Certified HeartMath Interventions Practitioner. The Agreement is the primary way HeartMath maintains the standards and boundaries of the program.

  • What does individual instruction mean?

HMI protocols are designed to be used in clinical modalities and settings. Typically this means you will be seeing individual patients and clients. This program is not designed for instruction of the HeartMath System outside of the clinical setting, like public workshops, lectures, courses, etc. We have other programs each with there own unique processes and guidelines for these venues.

Because we realize that some clinical applications include group therapy, we consider these 'groups' an extension of individual instruction and have specific protocols for this type of context and use. Other uses of the HMI program outside of the clinical setting may be acceptable in some specific cases, but those uses have to be approved.

  • How is this program different than HeartMath's 1:1 Provider Program?

The 1 on 1 Provider program is not a certification program and you do not have to be a health care professional to take it. The HMI course is significantly more academic, includes in-depth scientific information and assessment protocols and focuses on clinical applications. 1 on 1 Providers, unless also health care professionals, work outside of clinical settings and typically promote their HeartMath services to the general public. Click here for more details.

  • How much is the HMI course?

The standard fee for those professionals who see 'fee for service' (private) patients or clients is $1495. Scholarships may be available to those community-based agencies and clinics and certain educational institutions that work with underserved populations. Your HeartMath representative will let you know if you qualify.

  • How do I sign up for the course?

After you submit an application, you will receive an email from HeartMath's Director of Training and Licensing with specific instructions about how to register. Payment in full is required at the time of registration.

  • Can I resell HeartMath products?

You may set up a resellers account to receive discounts on products you want to make available to your clients and patients. At the end of your course, you can talk to your HeartMath representation to set up an account.

  • Do I get a discount on HeartMath products?

You will receive a coupon at the end of your course for a one time discount on your first purchase of HeartMath products. To continue to receive discounts you will need to set up a resellers account. Your HeartMath representation has more information.

  • Do I have to pay any additional fees, like royalties?

No. Aside from a small processing fee for certification renewal, which is required every three years, there are no additional charges, fees or royalties.

  • What are the renewal requirements?

You will be notified approximately 6 months before your 3 year anniversary with specific details.

  • Can I get CEUs?

Yes. Continuing Education Information (right click, 'save target as').

  • When is the next class?
