IQ Tip: Wearing of the GreenWritten by Kim Allen Thursday, 15 March 2012 00:00
Athletes call it the zone; others call it flow. It’s that state of consciousness when our higher motor faculties and intuition merge into liquid coordination and we play and work better. While many of us want to be 'there' more often, we sometimes find it hard to attain and, when we do, difficult to sustain. At HeartMath we believe this high performance state is an internal process that can be developed and accessed at will. And if you’ve got our emWave® technology you can see when you’re there! Our research over the last fifteen years has led to new understandings about the interactions between the heart, brain and nervous system and how these interactions impact reaction times and performance. 1 When the heart, brain and nervous system are synchronized we attain a measurable physiological state called coherence. Coherence is what underlies optimal performance and emotional stability, the key to accessing the zone. And when we’re in the zone, the emWave coherence indicator light turns green! But we can’t just ‘think’ our way into the zone. Our ability to perform at our best is compromised if we’re still thinking about and reacting to the business deal that fell through, the argument around the breakfast table or the double bogey on the 14th hole. It’s just about impossible to feel stressed ---a red light---and be in the ‘green’ zone at the same time! High performance starts by learning how to effectively transform a stressful emotional reaction into a positive one. Next time you experience a self-defeating negative feeling or attitude turn your light green: Heart focus. Heart breathing. Heart feeling.2 It works on and off the playing field. Take care, |
